Kumo Desu ga, Nani ka? Elf Village Battle 4

Elf Village Battle 4.

Elf Village Battle ④

【Ronant】

The barrier is broken, and the army begins to advance.
However, the way the barrier breaks has a sense of incongruity.

「Teacher, what's wrong?」
「Umu. How do you see the way the barrier breaks just now?」
「As expected, did Teacher also feel unnatural?」
「There's no way that I can't see through it when you can see through it」

Even my foolish apprentice had the sense of incongruity, so it's certain.
That doesn't seem to be destroyed by the great magic prepared by here.
Although that great magic was an advanced magic formula that I don't even know, the abilities of the magicians who handle it are poor.
Although it's said that they are the magicians of the church, I can only see that they are swung around by the magic with that skill.

However, then, what cause the barrier to break?
At the moment when the magic hit the barrier directly, a different shock seemed to be added to the barrier.
If that's the case, is there something that's acting as well as us?
The purpose?
Is it the Elves' feint to pretend so?
If that's the case, it's dangerous to continue marching, but, fumu.

「We will take separate actions than the main army from here. Come」
「Eh!? Wha-, Teacher!?」
「Don't worry. That idiot Yuugo doesn't see the whole. Even if we take separate actions, he won't notice it」
「Is it such a problem!?」
「I think I will at least leave a messenger」
「There!?」

My intuition is saying it.
I must confirm the mysterious existence that destroyed the barrier.
Then, there's no need to hesitate.
From the way the barrier breaks, I calculate backward the approximate position.
We began marching to there.

However, we receive continuous the attacks from everywhere in the forest, and we were confined quickly.
The Elves shot magic and arrows from the gap of the trees.

「I see. Even though our footing is bad and the march can't advance, they can have the upper hand by using the trees. This means that the whole forest is a huge trap」
「Teacher, don't feel admired, and please do something!」

The apprentices fight back to the Elves' magic desperately.
The progress of the battle is equal.
Although there's damage here, there's no dropouts among the foolish apprentices.
I'm slightly disappointed.

「Elves are only to this extent, huh?」
「Teacher? Do you hear what I'm saying?」

If the Elves are excluded, the world's strongest magician.
Although that's my present evaluation, I'm made to realize that the evaluation was wrong after looking at the Elves actually.
It's a good evidence that they can only fight with the foolish apprentices at an equal degree.
Elves are not my enemy.

「Hmph」

I construct magic.
Activate.
A Elf is shot through by my magic, and dies.

「Are you satisfied with this?」
「Y-Yes」

I annihilate the Elves, and begin to walk in the silent forest again.

「What speed of magic construction」
「Although there's that too, is it possible to create that amount of magic instantly?」
「No, in the first place, that magic should not have the function of pursuit. To apply additional effect in the magic, that person is a genius after all」

It's deplorable that they are excited about a child's play of this level.
Mu?

I prevent the flown magic.
I see.
Quite a power.
The dexterity is different from the Elves who I annihilated just now.
Reinforcement, huh?
I confirm it with "Thousand Miles Eyes".
Similar to the Elves just now, the strategy that makes the trees as the shield and attack from a long distance is unchanged.

This is a slightly intense opponent for the apprentices.
Well.
Let's get a little serious.

I construct magic.
The number is ten times of just now.
The power is double.
Because there's a distance, I raise the pursuit function.
Although I understood that the Elves hold their breath, there's no reason to show mercy.

The magic that I shot pierce the Elves' bodies.
Although some of them deploy defensive magic, they are pierced together with the magic.
Although some of them shoot magic to offset it, it's pierced without being able to offset it.
Although some of them try avoid it and escape, they are caught up by the pursuing magic.

I Transfer.
In front of me who transferred is the only one among the Elves who prevented my magic.
However, it was not completely prevented, and the body was covered in blood.

「Even the Transfer is mastered, you monster」
「I'm not a monster. You are only weak」
「Bullshit」

The Elf exerts his last strength and constructs magic.
Slow.
The activation of my magic that starts after that was faster, and the Elf dies easily.

「It's splendid」
「Nonsense. Even if you defeat an opponent of this degree, there's nothing that can be boasted」
「It's the Elves, you know? It's said that they far exceed the Humans if it's the magic skill. It's only the Teacher who can slaughter easily like this」
「If it's that person, they can be killed more easily. If it's this, the recent Hero is more stronger」
「Teacher, why did you withdraw at that time?」

I think a little to the apprentice's question.
Certainly, like my apprentice sees through my mind, I might win if I use all my power.
Although if it's me alone, the winning rate is half, if I match with my apprentices, we might be able to win.
However, I didn't intend to make that bet.

I'm also naive.
I didn't want to see the appearance of my apprentices dying.
And also, the appearance of the Hero dying.

I have one apprentice.
The apprentice who I was not able to finish bringing up with this hand because of the political thing and various ties.
The period that we were together is only 13 days.
An owner of talent that might develop more if I put him nearby.
Although that fought mainly with a sword, if I had to say, that had talent in magic.
That's why, if I raise him with this hand, he might not be defeated by the Demons.

All of these are not assumptions.
There was hardly anything that can be taught in 13 days.
But still, the previous Hero Julius is my best apprentice without a doubt.

It's a fact that I'm told to teach him by that person.
However, after I begin to teach people, I feel that I have found something important.
Did that person foresee this to come?
I don't know.
I can't foresee that person's real intention.

I was able to confirm that the younger brother of my ex-apprentice grew up splendidly.
And, if one were to say that the feeling of guilt that I didn't lead Julius properly fade, it's different, but there was an emotional thing.
That's why, there was no choice of fighting in that place.

「It's a whim」
「Haa」

I evade it suitably to deceive the real intention.
Well, if I meet with that Hero the next time, it might be good to train him a little serious.
Although a defeat is certain if it's pure power, if I'm not obsessed with winning, there are many ways to do it.
I could be able to teach him that there's also a way to fight without losing.
Although I don't know whether we will meet again or not.
For the time being, the first thing to do is to survive this battlefield.

    3. Nah, then he wouldn't exclude the Elves since they are by far weaker than Kumoko.

    1. A little conflicted but fundamental he would think its for a higher purpose.

That is if Julius is really dead

    7. Julius is dead by 99% after all shun got the hero title and i dont think kumoko can fake death that even tricks the System that easily even if she is an admin now

    8. Julius become Demon King subordinate, no longer fit to be a hero, the hero title moved to Shun... as if... hahahaha

    9. Kumoko has the Hero skill but not the Hero title

    10. I think that is because of ruler title. As laws don't exactly apply on people with ruler's title

    11. And at the time julius dies she is admin so maybe she can choose who will be hero(even if hero is not dead)

    12. Didn't Shun receive the Hero title after Julius died?

    13. This might be a spoiler but she doesn't have "skills" anymore.

    14. Yeah, Shun can revive people, so why can't Kumoko/Shiro, when she's already become a god.
If the condition to get the Hero title, is that the last Hero title holder dies, then even if Julius died for a moment, it's entirely plausible that the Title will transfer to Shun during that time.

But this assumes that Ariel and Shiro want Julius alive.

    15. @Arnold Jayeola One of the conditions for Shun to be able to resurrect people is that he needs a body to resurrect. Also, it must be right after death.

    2. Well.... maybe because most people come to read a certain Spider (although she somewhat humanoid now) killing things and eating them and not some worldbuilding and backstory chapters....

    5. @Yukkuri, the problem isn't the fact that most people don't want to see worldbuilding(though it might be a part of it) but rather that the S stories aren't really intriguing. For the most part they have been uninspired, with shallow characters (I mean, the fact that most people don't like shun speaks for itself) and the world was 'generic' to say the least. Now that it is picking up many experience something along the lines picking in halfway into a story. So no matter how interesting this part becomes, it'll draw less attention than the spider bits. And to be fair, even the worldbuilding itself is rather bland. Sure, the whole conspiracy with the elves is something was interesting but the world we know of here consists of a non-descript forest of elves in a barrier, with more forest around it and an army. We've been giving very little information in a whole. So combine a bland world with bland characters and well...it's quite obvious not many people pay attention. If we contrast that with kumoko, we've seen her develop both physically and as a person. And we've been there every time, which makes us feel attracted to her(as we know her quite well). Etc, I could say a lot more about it but I hope you get the gist.

    6. ...I don't agree at all. I think your making a mistake in what you define as world building.
Kumoko going Ranbo on the robots was a world building moment. Gyuri's drunken ramblings was world building. Kumoko and the holy war was world building. Most of the world building has been done in the main story.

Those moments, even though most were info dumbs, were really interesting. Rather than being due to the characters or scenarios being interesting, they were good because the characters were KNOWLEDGEABLE. They could do ACTUAL world building because they KNEW ABOUT THE WORLD.

For awhile now, the side story has been more devoted to showing that Shun and his group are actually ignorant, and know nothing of the world. From their perspective, it seems like a bland and generic world, as you put, but that's because their knowledge is trivial and makes the world out to be generic. Most of their knowledge is wrong at that. It's just to show that they only know a little more than the average person about that world and they misunderstand or are ignorant of anything of significance.

    7. Maybe people stopped reading the comments section because a certain someone shamelessly dropping spoilers here and there...

    8. The "Side" story is the "Actual" story while Kumoko's story is how things got to this point. Kumoko's 50% wandering, 25% fight/survival, and 25% worldbuilding, and mmm 50% idiocy.

Sure that adds to over 100%, but there's a lot of overlap.

Comparatively, there's no learning/grinding aspect to the "Actual" story because there's no clear goal beyond survival or conquering for anyone other than Kumoko. No human besides Ronant or Basgas has the necessary combo of life experience and skills to even approach Kumoko's stumble-along, and Yuugo is "single-handedly" making a nuisance of himself for a lot of people in the Bond Villain route.

In comparison to all-named, Shun is "generic protag" because of things that haven't been said outright in-story yet (hinted at in Kumoko's musings), but as far as comparisons go, he's the underpowered not-god-tier protag that has eyes and feet on the ground necessary for comparison to Kumoko, the /over/powered god-tier being that's more concerned with punching gods in the everything than really anything else.

  7. Reread it.
Ronant meant that he only ale to teach Julius magic for only 13 days.

    ReplyDelete
  8. No. He taught Shun 13 days... "the new hero "

    ReplyDelete
  9. I don't see how you got that. He was saying that Julius, even though he only spent 13 days teaching him, was his best apprentice.
