The question should be "what did the author write" since this is a translation. From the "Chinese" words used, it reads "Thousand (Abilities/Uses) Thread" so I'll go with "Universal" since the name is for "uses" not "invincibility" which is what "omnipotent" implies.
^This. 万能 literally means "ten-thousand abilities", which indicates "can do *practically* anything" it's not the same with omnipotent, which means "can do *absolutely* anything"
I'm really not sure I can pick one.
ReplyDeleteIf the thread is 'undefeatable', Omnipotent.
DeleteIf the thread can be used in a varied array of ways, Universal.
Omnipotent suggests the thread is invincible and all powerful, which I doubt it is.
ReplyDeleteUniversal suggests it has many uses, like a Swiss army knife.
Or a universal remote!
DeleteThey both have different meanings so you cant exactly chose between them without first knowing more about the skill
ReplyDeletehow about just : OMNI THREAD ?
ReplyDeleteI think omni thread sounds nicer as well, and keeps the meaning just fine too
DeleteI doubt he got the ultimate spider thread at just that stage of evolution, so it should be Universal.
ReplyDeleteas someone who's reading ahead, I'll just say without any explanation or qualifier, it's universal, not omni.
ReplyDeleteI prefer Omni-thread, as in all/multi-purpose thread. The next evolution after it is the final one.
ReplyDeleteOmnipotent never sounds good in a name, great for short descriptions, but doesn't sound nice in a name

ReplyDeleteMight need examples of the thread uses before able to decide on one.
ReplyDelete万能糸
ReplyDeleteall-purpose thread makes more sense, I think than omnipotent/all-mighty and universal.

Deletewhat do you think about "versatile"? ^^
DeleteMultipurpose Thread might be more accurate.
ReplyDeleteHow about just Omni thread, doesn't indicate that its invincible and seems to "roll off the tongue" better than omnipotent thread.
ReplyDeleteI think Universal is correct, per see, but 'Omnipotent' just caught my fancy when you used it xDD
ReplyDeleteALC.co.jp is always a good place for accurate translations:

So... Will there be chapters today? Haha

ReplyDeleteUnless a god is incapable of breaking her thread Omnipotent is too much.
Multi-purpose Utility Spider Silk Thread.
ReplyDeleteThe adjective "Omnipotent" makes the Skill sound more god-like, since omnipotent is often associated with God/Gods in stories.
ReplyDeleteThen again, Universal Thread sounds cool...
